by unexcusedabsences 21 Nov 2011

Bread is bread, right? Not at these five boulangerie. Even though the state regulates the ingredients, weight and maximum price of a baguettes, quality varies enormously.  This list contains boulangerie we feel sell truly exceptional bread. Of course it’s only our not-so-humble opinion, so your mileage may vary.

TOULOUSE (near Place St-Georges)

Maison De Oliveira

Wonderful flavor, medium texture and outstanding crust – see Google’s street view

5 Rue Pomme, 31000 Toulouse, France

MORET-SUR-LOING (near the Seine River, about 2 hours south of Paris)

Au p’tit Pétrin

Outstanding, velvety and moist and chewy bread with delightful crust – see Google’s street view

Avenue Jean Jaurès, 77250 Moret-sur-Loing, France

HESSE (eastern Lorraine)

Boulangerie-Patisserie Haoury

31 Rue Vosges, 57400 Hesse, France

CAPESTANG (Herault department of Languedoc-Roussillon)
